Originally from Chicago, Illinois, I received my formal education at the University of Chicago and also studied art, design and photography at the renowned School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After relocating to Dallas in 1990, I started my horticultural career as a custom floral designer and learned a lot about tropical plants. Shortly thereafter, I began work within the landscape and gardening industry. Eventually, I found myself on the design staff of several high profile landscape firms in North Texas. Then, in 2006, Michael Tanner Landscape Designs was launched. I have, literally, designed hundreds of landscapes.....which is my real passion. What appeals to me most, is the construction aspect of exterior design; and the integrating of natural elements with the 'man-made'. Plus, it's very gratifying to know that, through my work, I can help improve the quality of life for my clients, while teaching them that an appreciation of nature can be good for the soul. I have made the Dallas area my home for nearly 22 years now. It's a great place to live, work and build an amazing garden. Besides being an avid nature lover, I am also a flea market junkie, music lover and amateur photographer. My fondest pleasure is sharing my garden, ..... and life, with my two "best friends", Molly & Snickers (pictured below).

Remember, if you have a cat or dog, your yard is a part of their territory. Let them enjoy it too! Landscapes can be designed and planted to be very pet friendly. The secret is knowing which plants to use and how to lay them out.

And my 12 year old Chow-chow, Snickers, enjoys roaming around his kingdom, .....(the backyard). He enjoys the outdoors and chasing squirrels. Snickers is very photogenic and loves being the star of the show.
